Local pupil determined to win laurel wreath at the country's biggest knowledge contest
Nguyen Huu Quang Nhat, a Year 12/16 pupil from Da Nang’s Phan Chau Trinh Senior High School, is one of the 4 finalists of the 18th edition of the ‘Duong Len Dinh Olympia’ (Road to Mt. Olympia’s Peak).

Nhat was born in a normal family with his father being a vehicle repairer and his mother being a housewife.
From a young age, Nhat has dreamt of participating in the ‘Duong Len Dinh Olympia’ which is currently one of Viet Nam’s biggest quiz contests.
Thanks to his parents’ love and encouragement, Nhat has exerted his efforts to gain numerous remarkable achievements during his school years.
In particular, Nhat won a first prize at the annual Da Nang Youth Informatics Contest when he was a primary school pupil, and received a second prize at a municipal-level chemistry contest when he was in the 9th grade.
The talented teenager also brought home a gold medal at an annual renowned 30 April Olympiad for Year 10 and 11 pupils in the southern region when he was a 10th grader.
Most notably, Nhat has been presented with Certificates of Merit for 2 occasions from the municipal People’s Committee in recognition of his outstanding academic results over the past years.
Before taking part in this year’s ‘Duong Len Dinh Olympia’, Nhat won the first prize at a weekly competition of the ‘Conquest’ programme. The programme had already had the participation of prominent contestants Ho Dac Thanh Chuong and Phan Dang Nhat Minh nicknamed ‘Google boy’. Both Chuong and Minh were crown champions at the ‘Duong Len Dinh Olympia’ in 2016 and 2017 respectively.
At this year’s programme, Nhat won first prizes at the weekly, monthly and quarterly competitions with very high points thanks to his quick thinking ability and extensive knowledge.
Then, Nhat become the first finalist of the ‘Duong Len Dinh Olympia’ programme 2018 after wining a recent quarterly competition with 280 points in total. This has brought honour to the Phan Chau Trinh School.
“This is the first time I have competed in the ‘Duong Len Dinh Olympia’ programme. It is a great honour for me and my school to become one of the 4 finalists of this year’s programme”, Nhat remarked.
The final round will be broadcast live on the national broadcaster’s VTV3 channel on 2 September. At this round, Nhat will compete against 3 other finalists - Chu Quang Truong from Ho Chi Minh City, Nguyen Hoang Cuong from Quang Ninh, and Le Thanh Tan Nhat from Quang Tri - to earn the victor’s laurel wreath hat for this season.
This year, live streaming programmes will take place in Ho Chi Minh, Da Nang, Quang Tri and Quang Ninh.
In Da Nang, the live streaming programme will be held at the Tien Son Sports Arena to facilitate teachers and pupils from the Phan Chau Trinh School, plus local residents, to watch and cheer for Nhat.
‘Road to Mt. Olympia’s Peak’, a prestigious knowledge contest on TV for senior high school pupils nationwide, has been organised by VTV3 and funded by LG Electronics.
The winner of this competition is granted a scholarship of 35,000 US$ to study in Australia.
Fifteen years ago, Vo Van Dung from the city’s Le Quy Don Senior High School for the Gifted won the final contest of the ‘Duong Len Dinh Olympia’ 2003.
