Scholarships given to poor pupils for new school year
On Wednesday, representatives from the Da Nang Fatherland Front Committee gave 20 scholarships, valued at 2 million VND each, to poor studious pupils of the Nguyen Van Linh Junior High School in Cam Le District, and the Le Thi Hong Gam Junior High School in Thanh Khe District.
The scholarship fund was raised from Korean expats who are working and living in the city by Mr Ly Xuong Can, a member of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front Central Committee.
In addition, the Hoa Vang District Fatherland Front Committee honoured and presented cash awards, worth 1 million VND each, to 16 Co Tu ethnic minority pupils who were enrolled into public universities this year.
These recipients are typical examples in overcoming their difficulties to study well in rural areas.
In order to facilitate poor ethnic minority pupils to complete their university programmes, the Hoa Vang District Fatherland Front Committee will give an annual scholarship of 5 million VND to each of the 16 pupils if they achieve relatively good academic results with good behaviour.
Also on the same day, representatives of the Linh Ung Ba Na Pagoda donated 140 gifts, worth 500,000 VND each, to poor pupils in Hoa Phu, Hoa Bac, Hoa Ninh and Hoa Lien mountainous areas in Hoa Vang District.
