Under the cooperative programmes, many of the world’s leading professors and educational experts have come to Da Nang to teach and conduct scientific research. They have used advanced teaching methods to help their students to acquire important and necessary knowledge, and use it in concrete situations. In addition, new opportunities have been offered to local students to conduct scientific research.

Prof Darren Henry, who is the Dean of the Finance Faculty of the La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia, is a typical example.

Under a cooperative programme between his University and the Da Nang University of Economics, Mr Henry has been in Da Nang since 2016 to co-conduct scientific research with the local University’s lecturers, to provide active support in teaching activities, and to give advice in scientific research at seminars organised by the University’s Finance Faculty.

In particular, Prof Henry has taught at the University of Economics for 5 months in 2018. During that period, he used the face-to-face teaching methods. Accordingly, he used PowerPoint presentation slides to offer his students main knowledge, and then gave practical situations for students to discuss in groups. He also required his students to study financial information of Viet Nam and the world by themselves through media channels and then raise questions for him.

Dr Dang Huu Man from the University’s Finance Faculty remarked since 2016 Prof Henry and his Faculty’s lectures together published 6 articles on an international magazine of the US Information Sciences Institute (ISI).

Mr Man added that all his students were interested in attending Prof Henry’s classes because his lessons gave students a new perspective on experimental research of financial issues.

Another example is Assoc Prof Fabien Ferrero from the French Nice Sophia Antipolis University who is an exchange lecturer at the Da Nang International Institute of Technology (DNIIT).

The French professor has worked in the city under a cooperative programme between the UDN and the Nice Sophia Antipolis University.

This year, Mr Ferrero has came to Viet Nam twice, and he was a members of the jury at the Smart Campus Competition in the 2017 - 2018 academic year which recently took place in the city. He is also a main speaker at the UDN’s LoRA network-related seminars.

Dr Hoang Hai, Head of International Cooperation Department of the UDN, remarked over the last years, many international professors and educational experts have been actively involved in teaching at the UDN and its school members. Included are Vietnamese French Profs Le Thanh Nhan and Tran Quoc Tuan, Dr Le Trong Phi from Germany, Prof Marc Daniel from France, Profs Junichi Mori and Hitoshi Yamada from Japan, and Profs Geoff Parkes, Helen Griffiths and Yulan He, all from the UK.

When studying with these foreign professors, local students have the opportunity to access new learning and teaching methods.

Apart from Vietnamese students, local teaching staff have enjoyed many benefits when working with foreign professors such as learning about in-depth knowledge and improving their foreign language skills.
