Promoting environment-friendly practices in the aquafarm
Many freshwater fish farmers from the Hoa Phong and Hoa Khuong communes in Da Nang’s Hoa Vang District, on Tuesday, attended a workshop on environmentally -friendly aquaculture practices held by the municipal Agro-Forestry-Fishery Promotion Centre.
To date, 10 fish farms covering a total area of 16,000 m2 in the Hoa Phong and Hoa Khuong communes have adopted environmentally friendly practices on trial basis. Of their farmed fish, 80% are red tilapias, 5% are dories, 5% are mud carps, and the remainder are basa fish.
The total cost of the pilot adoption of the innovative technology is expected to reach 100 million VND, funded by the Centre.
After 5 months of implementation, the innovative method has been highly appreciated by the fish farmers attending the workshop.
It was reported at the event that, in the past, the rate of loss was about 40%, but now, thanks to the effective application of the biosafety method with no use of antibiotics, the disease risk has reduced significantly, hereby providing healthy and safer aquaculture products to local residents in order to protect public health.
Mr Dang Van Hong, the Centre’s Director, remarked that the rate of live fish has reached 65% - 75%, with a productivity of 8-10 tonnes / ha, and 70 - 90 million VND in profit / ha.
