A group of 6 talented students from the Traffic Engineering Faculty of the Da Nang University of Science and Technology has successful created a multi-purpose garbage collection machine which is able to collect garbage found along beaches and underwater.

The machine, designated to operate at a speed of 12kph for up to 10 consecutive hours, is promised to facilitate beach cleanups.

With this product, the students won the second prize at a recent scientific and technological creation competition held exclusively for this university’s students, and was then selected to be displayed at the University of Da Nang- organised science and technology festival.

The most praiseworthy sign is that the municipal Youth Union and the Young Entrepreneurs’ Association are considering to jointly fund the mass production of this product on a trial basis.

Vo Anh Khoa, the group leader, said, during their leisurely strolling along coastal routes, he and his coursemates saw piles of trash being washed up on large stretches of local beaches, which blighted the urban landscape. It took lots of time for sanitary workers had to collecting waste floating on the water surface. This fact, indeed, inspired these young men to come up with the idea of designing a multi-functional garbage collection machine.

The machine can easily move on loose sand terrain thanks to its flexible crawler system.  In addition, the machine can also float stably on the water surface, and withstand the impact of rogue waves.

In particular, the flexible conveyor can customise the height to suit each type of terrains, hereby collecting garbage in an effective manner.

Besides, the machine also features such other accompanying equipment as the space-saving and highly efficient garbage compartment and the wide garbage receiving door.

Last, but not least, this cost-effective and power-operated machine shows off its highly aesthetic external shape, and it can be used in tourists-packed areas without causing discomfort and environmental pollution.

Saying about his future plan, Khoa said his group will spend much time and make greater efforts perfecting their brainchild with more new features serving various purposes in life, including the warning against coastal whirlpools, and the monitoring of the quality of coastal waters.

Given its very high applicability, it is feasible to conduct the mass production of this product in the coming time. To realise this target, the group is seeking great support from their future investors.
