Installation of 10 EU-funded solar photovoltaic systems in the city completed
On Friday morning, the Delegation of the European Union (EU) in Viet Nam in collaboration with the Da Nang Energy Conservation and Technology Consultant Centre (DECC) officially inaugurated the rooftop solar photovoltaic system at the Vo Thi Sau Primary School in Hai Chau District.
The event was as part of the European Union Climate Diplomacy Week 2019 which aimed to raise public awareness on addressing climate change.
The solar photovoltaic system has a total installed capacity of 8.25kWp, and it is expected to generate an energy output of 12,045kWh. This will help to save about 26 million VND, and reduce 5 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions, per year.
The installation cost of the system was 212 million VND which was funded by EU.
After 2 months of trial operation, the system has helped the school to save a monthly average of 2.2 million VND.
In early 2017, Da Nang decided to launch a Eu-funded pilot project to develop solar energy in the city.
Accordingly, solar panels have been installed on the rooftop of 4 public buildings, namely the Da Nang General Hospital, the Vo Thi Sau Primary School, both of Hai Chau District, the Lien Chieu District-based Cancer Hospital, and the Thanh Khe District-located Hoang Dieu Junior High School, plus 6 families across the city.
All solar photovoltaic systems have been put into use since June 2019, and they have been connected to the national electricity grid, thereby partly meeting the electricity demand of the buildings and households.
