The list was compiled based on the Scopus abstract and citation data of nearly 7 million scientists across more than 170 scientific sub-fields between 1996 and 2017.

There are more than 40 Vietnamese scientists included in the list, but most of them are of Vietnamese origin and currently working overseas, only three are working in the country.

The first of the trio, who was ranked at the 28,129th place, is Professor Tran Xuan Bach from the Ha Noi Medical University. Bach, an expert in public health, obtained the associate professor title in 2016 when he was 32, making him the youngest Vietnamese person to secure the status.
