Tran Phuoc Bao Thu, a student from the Architecture Faculty of the Da Nang-based University of Science and Technology, won the second prize of the ‘Green Architecture for Vietnamese Student 2019’ contest in September for her project on building a centre for caring for pets and providing relief for wildlife on the western side of the Ba Na Hills.

The Da Nang native girl has a special love for nature and wildlife. Thu said that she came up with the idea of developing the project after witnessing the increasing cases of wildlife abuse and mistreatment in Viet Nam. This reality inspired her to develop a green architecture that is convenient, scientific and economical to rescue and protect wildlife.

Thu said her project aimed to raise public awareness about promoting the protection of wildlife.

Thu’s project features an open architecture work but is fully equipped with systems and equipment. In particular, there will be an exhibition space and an area for pets.

As for the area for pets, there will be a hospital, a playground for pets, a semi-wild research area, and an accommodation area for experts.

During the contest, Bao Thu impressed the judges of contest with her impressive idea of animal protection, eye-catching architecture designed in harmony with the nature, and environmentally friendly construction materials.

In addition, Thu affirmed that the implementation of her project would not affect the Ba Na-Nui Chua Special Use Forest's inherent ecosystem. Besides, her project can effectively handle some problems relating to odour and noise pollution from the centre for caring for animals.

Previously, the passionate architecture student had won many notable prizes at municipal-level contests. Included were the first prize for her ideas on lighting decorations at the contest to find the best ideas for floral displays and lighting decorations for the 2019 Tet Festival, and the third prize of the Asia's Young Designer Awards 2018.
