Thanks to their great efforts and hard work, a group of students from the Da Nang University of Education have created BIO-MS and BIO-MS1 probiotic products from quail droppings. The talented students are Phan Phuoc Thanh Thuan, Nguyen Chau Giang, and Tran Thi Diem Quynh.

In particular, the BIO-MS biological product is used to minimise odour from quail farms and prevent diseases for quails, thereby reducing the overuse of antibiotics in animal husbandry. Besides, BIO-MS helps to create BIO-MS1 microbial organic fertiliser from quail droppings.

Thanh Thuan said he and his teammates came up with the idea of the MICWAY project on creating BIO-MS and BIO-MS1 probiotic products after having seen a boomimg quail farms in the central region, resulting in environmental pollution problems.

He remarked quail droppings feature many microorganisms that are harmful to plants and animals, as well as cause respiratory and digestive diseases for humans.

Therefore, the project aims to deal with the above-mentioned problems by focusing on treating quail droppings with probiotic products.

The MICWAY project has been implemented by the group of students since late 2017 under the guidance of lecturers in the University’s Biology and Environment Falculty.

The students’ efforts have been paid off as their products have been used by many quail farmers in the Tra Kiem Village in Hoa Vang District’s Hoa Phuoc Commune, the Tuy Loan Organic Vegetables Consumption and Production Service Cooperative in Hoa Vang District’s Hoa Phong Commune, and other areas in Quang Nam Province’s Dien Ban Town.

On average, each liter of BIO-MS will treat the significant amount of droppings of 1,000 quails within 2 months. Meanwhile, BIO-MS1 micro-organic fertiliser has met national standard TCVN 7185: 2002.

With these advantages, the project has gained many achievements over recent years. Included are a Certificate of Merit from the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, the first prize at a startup innovation contest for south-central coastal provinces, the third prize at the ‘Da Nang Startup Runway’ 2019, and the second prize at the recent Startup Weekend Danang 2019.

Most recently, the project’s developers have been invited to participate in an incubation programme launched by the Da Nang Entrepreneurship Support Company Ldt (DNES).

According to Phan Phuoc Thanh Thuan, he and his teammates are planning to develop more probiotic products for each type of trees, vegetables and fruits, as well as make organic dishwashing liquid.
