Despite doing different jobs, but above all, three young people in Da Nang show keen interest in promoting the city's sustainable development.

Excellent student with a dream about AI development

Since being at school, Trinh Hoai Nam, a postgraduate at the University of Dublin, in Dublin City, the Republic of Ireland, has achieved many remarkable academic results.

 

In particular, he claimed the first prize at the Go Green In The City 2015 competition for his project on building a green system in the city. Also in 2015, he took the Best Presentation Award at the Texas Instruments contest.

Most notably, he has received Sunflower Mission Engineering & Technology scholarships for 3 consecutive years. He has graduated from Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunication of the Da Nang-based University of Science and Technology with an excellent score of 3.84 / 4.00.

In addition, Nam is an active member of the 350.org which is an international environmental organisation to address climate change.

The excellent student participated in scientific and technological exchange activities in Tokyo and Kobe, Japan, in January 2015.

Nam had worked at eSilicon, a leading semiconductor design and manufacturing solutions provider, for 2 years, before he received a full PhD scholarship at the University of Dublin in January 2019.

The 27-year-old student is now studying computer science major. His research majorly focuses on developing artificial intelligence (AI) applications in the healthcare sector.

“I really like my current job because I have the opportunity to work in such European countries as the Netherlands, Switzerland, France, and Austria. Most importantly, my research can be helpful for Parkinson and cancer patients” Nam added.

The Da Nang student native remarked “If I have the opportunity, I look forward to returning to Da Nang in order to help the city develop AI-related training programmes for students, and other programmes that can help raise public awareness of AI”.

Local girl actively involved in social activities

Le Luu Thi Diem, 24, is well-known for her English proficiency and agility, and being an energetic person in ​​social activities.

 

When she was at school, Diem recorded outstanding academic results, including high prizes in the city-level contests for excellent pupils, and the first prize at the ‘Students of the University of Da Nang with APEC 2017’ contest.

In addition, Diem got actively involved in social activities. Specifically, she worked as a volunteer for such major events in the city as the 5th Asian Beach Games (ABG5), the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week 2017, and IRONMAN.

Also, she worked as communications coordinator for the Let’s Do It! Vietnam - a campaign to encourage residents and visitors to keep trash off the streets in many localities across the country. In addition, she did the same kind of work for the Robot-Making Open Contest for Da Nang Senior High School Pupils (RoboDnic).

She is co-founder of the ‘Garbage Journey’ programme which aimed to educate students about environmental protection.

Currently, Diem is an assistant to the Board of Directors of the FPT Software Da Nang cum a fashion and design consultant for TOBI Streetwear - the first domestic fashion brand in Da Nang.

The active girl said “In the future, I hope that I will make greater efforts to advertise the beautiful images of dynamic and young Da Nang to international friends through my current jobs”.

Making great efforts to make Da Nang a more beautiful city in eyes of visitors

Dang Ngoc Tien, 24, residing in Cam Le District, soon abandoned the path of studying. Tien's youth was associated with the days of hanging out with friends. However, Tien decided to rebuild his life by doing useful things for society. As a result, the SOS Da Nang group was formed.

 

The group is offering free-of-charge punctured and flat tyre repair services late at night.

Since its establishment, Tien and his team members have offered repair to up to hundreds of cases of distressed motorbikes.

The kind-hearted man said that he always felt happy when helping people in distress.

Tien said “I am proud to be a citizen of a liveable Da Nang city. I will make greater efforts to maintain the effective operation of the SOS Da Nang group in order to make Da Nang a more liveable and friendly city in the eyes of local residents and visitors".
