An increasing number of Da Nang’s students are opting to study abroad. In its effort to meet the growing demand from local students, the University of Da Nang (UDN) has been developing many international-standard training programmes to provide an high-quality and modern learning environment for its students.

Currently, 3 UDN schools members, namely the University of Science and Technology, the University of Economics, and the city-based Viet Nam-UK Institute for Research and Executive Education (VNUK), are implementing international joint training programmes with their partnering universities overseas.

In particular, the University of Economics is implementing the 2+2 and 3+1 study-abroad programmes. This allows students to study entirely in English languages for the first 2 or 3 years of the programmes. After that, they study the remaining 1 or 2 years at the university’s partnering units abroad such as the Middlesex University London and the Cardiff Metropolitan University in UK, and the Swinburne University of Technology in Australia.

Dr. Doan Thi Lien Huong, Deputy Head of the Education Office of the University of Economics, highlighted these study-abroad programmes to create English-speaking learning environment, and rich extracurricular activities, for students.

Dr Nguyen Thi My Huong from the VNUK said transnational education (TNE) has been a part of the international strategy of VNUK after the educational institute was established in 2014. But TNE has begun to expand far more rapidly over recent years.

She added TNE offers students the ability to study in their home country with an institution, or in partnership with an institution, from another nation. It generally costs much less than enrolling abroad and offers all the comforts of a domestic education with the benefits of an international institution.

Dr Huong revealed that VNUK has been implementing 2+2 study-abroad programmes with the Aston University, the Heriot-Watt University and the University of Hull in the UK, the Cesine University in Spain, and the Monash University in Australia.

In recent years, UDN has focused on diversifying international joint training programmes, granting more scholarships to its students, and organising more student exchange programmes in a bid to boost the global integration of Viet Nam’s education and create more job opportunities for Vietnamese students.
