Financial suport for poor school pupils in the city
Over recent years, Da Nang has offered financial help and award schemes to support poor school pupils in an effort to make sure that they get timely assistance to overcome their difficulties and continue pursuing their dreams of studying. Thanks to active support from the city authorities, most of them have graduated from universities and junior colleges, and they have found stable jobs after graduation.
Notably, initiated by the Da Nang Study Encouragement Association in 1998, the annual Huynh Thuc Khang Talent Encouragement Awards aim to honour 9th and 12th graders for their outstanding academic results, and encourage them to continue their efforts to follow the example of late Huynh Thuc Khang, a Vietnamese strong-willed patriotic scholar.
Every year, between 35 and 40 school pupils who achieve outstanding academic results are honoured with the annual Huynh Thuc Khang Talent Encouragement Awards.
Chairman of the municipal Study Encouragement Association Tran Dinh Lien said winners of the annual Huynh Thuc Khang Talent Promotion Awards have been excellent school pupils over the past 21 years. Among the honourees is Le Thi Nguyet Hang, a former pupil of the Le Quy Don Senior High School for the Gifted, who has won silver medals twice at the International Biology Olympiad.
In addition, many other support programmes for poor school pupils and award schemes included ‘Le Van Hien Awards’, ‘Nguyen Hien Awards’, ‘Typical Excellent Pupils’, and ‘Poor Studious Pupils’.
