Jointly developed by EU and the Da Nang Energy Conservation Centre (DECC), the 444,000 EUR project ran from July 2017 until October 2019. Of this, 393,000 EUR was funded by the EU, whilst the remainder came from DECC’s capital.

The major goal of the project was to raise public awareness about the efficient and economical use of energy, with a focus on encouraging Da Nang public to use solar energy in a bid to boost green growth, promote energy conservation and mitigate the concerning climate change.

The DSED project consisted of 3 main components, namely the development of a policy framework for solar energy development; the installation of solar panels on the rooftops of selected families and public buildings in the city; and the enhancement of knowledge capacity and exchanges about solar energy development.

Under the EU-funded scheme, solar panels were installed on the rooftop of selected homes and public buildings across Da Nang.

Besides, DECC’s existing showroom was upgraded to allow it to acquire modern equipment to demonstrate how solar photo-voltaic panels produce electricity from capturing free-of-charge energy from the sun, as well as net metering which connects the produced energy with the national distribution grid.

The installation of solar panels in homes and businesses across Da Nang each year generate a combined total power output of about 102,784kWP. Thanks to such a high volume of electricity, onwers of homes and buildings themselves satisfied their demand for power and sold any excess electricity to the national grid for economic benefits.

In addition, the DSED project’s experts conducted the assessment of the solar energy potential in certain industries, built solar energy map in the city at http://nlmtdanang.com.vn, and created a solar rooftop mobile app.

Addressing a recent review meeting on the DSED project, EU Programme Manager Cécile Leroy commended project participants for their efforts in promoting the use of  solar energy for Da Nang’s sustainable development.
