On Wednesday, the first graders of the Hoa Bac Primary School and ninth graders of the Nguyen Tri Phuong Junior High School in Hoa Bac Commune, Hoa Vang District returned to school after nearly months-long absence due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

These are the first two schools in Da Nang to organise classroom learning with a heed paid to ensuring the practice of safety measures against COVID-19.

One of those heading back to class was Tran Thi Hang from Gian Bi village, a ninth-grader at Nguyen Tri Phuong Junior High School.

Arriving at class was that little bit different than before. Hang needed to have her body temperature checked and had to disinfect her hands before class started.

So desperate to get back to her on-campus studies, Hang arrived early.

“I’m very eager to go back to school. I feel like everything is both familiar and strange. I really miss my classmates. I am very happy to be able to focus on studying, especially since I am in Year 9 and must prepare for the important graduation exam”, the girl said.

Hang also complained she found difficult to follow online learning given the slow network causing the absorption of lessons. Therefore, going back to school for face-to-face education made her feel more secure.

Meanwhile, teachers hoped that the coming school days would go smoothly, so their pupils and themselves could finish the school year well.

These schools are equipped with temperature measuring equipment, masks, hand washing places with sanitizers and soaps.

In particular, at each school, there is an isolation room exclusively for pupils who are suspected of contracting the coronavirus.

Besides the school’s preparation, pupils were told to actively protect themselves from the spread of COVID-19,

In each classroom, pupils maintained social distancing and wear face masks.

During the first day of resume on-campus schooling, teachers at the Hoa Bac Primary School mainly instructed the first graders how to ensure proper sitting posture for studying, and help them become familiar with Vietnamese and Maths, the two major subjects.

Meanwhile, the ninth graders from the Nguyen Tri Phuong Junior High School now join face-to-face classes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays with Maths, English and Literature whilst maintaining online schooling on the remaining subjects on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
