Da Nang delays return to in-person classes for students in some wards amid rise in COVID cases
Students in grades 1, 8 and 9 across Da Nang began returning to in-person classes on Monday, December 6 amidst the new normal after they have been in fully remote learning because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The schools are opening with proper precautions in line with the recommendations of the Da Nang Department of Education and Training and the health agency in a bid to maintain the environment that are as safe as possible for its teachers and students.
However, Da Nang People's Committee Vice Chairwoman Ngo Thi Kim Yen remarked that grade 1 pupils in an Alert Level 3 area are not allowed to return to in-person classes during her meeting with members of the municipal Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control held late afternoon on December 3.
As for grade 1 pupils in other areas in the city, they are now back in school, and their teachers are required to get tested for COVID-19 once a week.
The schools are moving to in-person learning, with online options for students who don’t wish to attend in-person or live in locked down areas, along with those who are stranded in other localities due to COVID-19.
In addition, returning to in-person learning is being pushed back in the whole Lien Chieu Ditsrict, Thanh Khe Dong Ward in Thanh Khe District amid the complex developments of COVID-19 in these areas.
The Son Tra District authorities have also delayed the return to in-person learning for first graders in Tho Quang and An Hai Bac wards.
Students in these areas will continue logging into virtual classes while their schools remain closed temporarily.
Authorities in these areas will continue to review the COVID-19 case numbers with the local health department on a weekly basis and make a determination on returning to in-person attendance at a convenient time.
