'Nurturing dreams' scholarship targets poor-yet- excellent students

The Da Nang Study Promotion Association has just organised the granting of 'Nurturing dreams" scholarships for the 2021 - 2022 academic year to poor students having excellent academic performance citywide. The scholarship has been maintained throughout university years until the students succeed with the hope that they will strive to study and thereby contribute to supporting the next generations.

At the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year, the municipal Study Promotion Association started awarding the 'Nurturing dreams' scholarships with the sponsorship of Mr Nguyen Thanh Lan, residing in Xuan Ha Ward, Thanh Khe District. Mr Lan, a businessman being passionate about human development, is committed to sponsoring 10 needy students from the first year of the university until their graduation. Along with a scholarship of VND 20 million/year, he also awards prizes to excellent and very good students.

Since 2021, the Association and Mr Lan agreed to adjust 3 levels of scholarships for excellent, very good and good students, respectively, at VND 70 million, VND 40 million, and VND 20 million per academic year. Besides, if their academic performance is below the good level, they will choose another student instead.

At the end of the 2020-2021 school year, one student with excellent academic results will receive a scholarship of VND 70 million, and three having very good study performance will receive a scholarship of 40 million VND for the academic year 2021-2022.

Student Tran Thi Minh Ngoc, residing in An Khe Ward, Thanh Khe District, of the University of Foreign Language Studies- University of Danang (UD) has just received a scholarship of 70 million VND. Her father died from a serious illness in 2013, and her mother has suffered from many chronic diseases. Thanks to the "Nursing dreams" scholarship, she has enough conditions to study and strive to pursue her academic path. She said that she will use awarded money to pay tuition fees, buy more learning materials and buy medicine for her mother.

Meanwhile, student Hoang Phuong Nam of the University of Science and Education- UD, who was abandoned at a young age, now lives in a rented accommodation in Hoa Minh Ward, Lien Chieu District and has just received a scholarship of VND 40 million for very good study performance. "Outside of school hours, I take advantage of tutoring, but I can't afford accommodation and study expenses. Fortunately, thanks to the "Nurturing Dreams" scholarship, my life has stabilized. I’ll strive to study well to receive scholarships and become a useful person for society in the future,” Phuong Nam confided.

On an annual basis, the students in "Nurturing dreams" scholarship program have met, exchanged learning experiences, and regularly reported on their learning, training and striving results for the Association and the sponsor. According to Mr Tran Dinh Lien, Chairman of the municipal Study Promotion Association, the Association will maintain the "Nurturing dreams" scholarship throughout university years until the students succeed with the hope that they will strive to study and thereby contribute to supporting the next generations.

Student Pham Thi Ngoc Thuy of the University of Agriculture and Forestry-Hue University, a local of Hoa Xuan Ward, Cam Le District, expressed: “We fully support the plan of the Association. In the future, no matter how life changes, I will never forget the kindness of Mr Nguyen Thanh Lan and the "Nurturing dreams" scholarship.
