The Da Nang government and the Military-run telecommunications company (Viettel Group), on Saturday, inked a Memorandum of Understanding on implementing digital transformation projects in the city during the 2022 - 2030 period.

Also in attendance were representatives from the municipal Departments of Information and Communications, Planning and Investment, Construction, Natural Resources and Environment and Finance; the Authority of Da Nang Hi-Tech Park and Industrial Parks, the local Investment Promotion and Support Board, and the Hai Chau District People's Committee, along with leaders of the Viettel Group and its member companies.

In his remarks at the event, Da Nang People's Committee Chairman Le Trung Chinh emphasised that the development of the information technology industry associated with the digital economy is one of the city’s five spearhead areas. Therefore, he noted that Viettel Group's investment projects in Da Nang until 2025 are completely in line with the city's development orientations, and will contribute to promoting the local socio-economic development in a modern and sustainable manner with a focus on digital transformation and digital economy.

The Da Nang government is committed to always accompanying and creating favourable conditions for Viettel Group to research and effectively carry out projects in Da Nang.

Under the deal, the municipal government and Viettel Group will conduct research and implement projects in the field of information technology and communications between 2022 and 2025. Included will be the construction of an 8.6ha automatic selection and sharing centre at the Lien Chieu Industrial Park, and the Viettel Da Nang building.

In 2023, the 5G coverage will be rolled up at some industrial parks and the Da Nang Hi-Tech Park, whilst an undersea cable docking station will be built in the city.

Meanwhile, Viettel Group will construct a hi-tech data centre complex, including a telecommunications and information technology data centre, a hi-tech research and development centre, a hi-tech training centre and a regional data centre in service of the operation of telecommunications network, e-government infrastructure and 4.0 technology platforms.

Moreover, Viettel Group is committed to ensuring the conditions, financial capacity and experience to implement the projects in accordance with the laws and the city’s criteria in investment attraction and investment, land, construction-related procedures as prescribed in order to soon put these projects into operation.

Previously, in 2021, Viettel Group signed cooperation agreements on carrying out key digital transformation projects in the city in such spheres as infrastructure, digital platforms, digital economy, healthcare, education, tourism, industry, trade, agriculture and digital government.

It is known that in September 2022, Viettel Group also won the bid for the Intelligent Operations Centre (IOC) project to support the Da Nang government to improve the capacity of digital transformation to localities.

Accordingly, Viettel will apply 4.0 technologies, such as Bigdata, AI, ML and NLP to support users to make the fastest and most accurate decisions in information management, administration information extraction.

In addition to technical solutions, Viettel Group also always accompanies the units to reform institutions, and change the old management methods to more modern ones which are more suitable for the digital technology and digital data.

According to Viettel Group Chairman and General Director Tao Duc Thang, Viettel is one of the country's major technology groups. Currently, Viettel has become a consulting partner implementing digital transformation for about 80 Party and Government agencies, ministries, agencies, organisations, businesses, and provinces and cities nationwide.

Viettel Group has demonstrated its role in digital transformation in the public sector through the rate of 67% of new digital transformation products developed by Viettel in the past 6 months serving this field. Revenue in the field of information technology solutions increased by 14% compared to 2021.

Viettel’s goals in digital transformation is to change the centered role of government and business to residents and customers, move from single solutions to ecosystems of solutions that link and exchange information with each other, and shift from focus on technology solutions to that on data centralisation and sharing for parties. Therefore, the construction of digital infrastructure in Da Nang will help Viettel have more capacity to implement smarter city building projects.
