Graduating at a time when the tourism industry was still under the influence of COVID-19, Nguyen Thanh Duc, a former student of the Da Nang Tourism Junior College, felt lucky as getting a trial job at the place where he completed his internship and having opportunity to work with the job he loved.

“At the end of my internship, I was facilitated by the chef to access a trial job and have the opportunity to work for a long time. Thanks to the internship period facilitated by the school and the company, I got used to the job. It is a great joy and motivation to keep trying to pursue my passion” Duc said.

According to Mr. Nguyen Duy Quang, Rector of the Da Nang Tourism Junior College, in 2022, the school signed a training programme with 19 businesses and organisations based in the city in order to improve the quality of training. This brought the total number of enterprises who cooperated with the school to more than 100 by 2022. The percentage of interns who are retained to work at the enterprise is about 30%. Most of which are well-known enterprises such as Minh Toan Galaxy, Naman Retreat, Premier Village Danang, Belle Maison Parosand Hotel Danang, Vinpearl Resort & Spa , and Vinpearl Phu Quoc.

“The school aims to 'train what society needs', not just what the school has. At the same time, we focus on increase the internship time at enterprises so that students have practical knowledge and experience. Besides, our school strengthens cooperation with businesses such as hotels, resorts, travel agencies, etc. Schools and businesses together create the most favourable conditions and environment for students to cultivate the knowledge and skills that they have learned at school," Mr. Quang noted.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Minh Tam, Director of the Human Resources and Training Department at the Furama Resort Da Nang said, the unit paid special attention to training human resources in the fields of tourism - services, chefs, catering, etc.

Currently, the cooperation between schools and businesses is increasingly extensive and close, thereby contributing to creating jobs for students.

“For many years, we have always been active in training and creating opportunities for graduates. The enterprise itself must take the initiative to fill its gap of a lack of human resources" Mrs. Tam shared.

At the Da Nang Junior College of Commerce, every 3 years, the Board of Directors of the college reviews all training programmes, and actively invites representatives of businesses to participate in criticising and contributing construction ideas to develop training programmes, aiming to update knowledge and skills to meet the needs of society and businesses.

The school’s training programmes with practical time account for nearly 70% of the total training time of the whole course, hereby strengthening extra-curricular programmes to help students have practical experience and familiarise themselves with the current majors they are studying.

Vo Hong Son, Rector of the Junior College of Commerce, said that the school has cooperated with the municipal Young Entrepreneurs’ Association, VCCI Da Nang and businesses, hotels, resorts and tourist spots such as the Danang Golden Bay Hotel, Vinpearl JSC, Sun World Ba Na Hills, and MM Mega Market Co., Ltd. in order to implement internship cooperation programmes for students.

With the support of the school and the students' initiative in finding jobs, the rate of graduates who have jobs involving their majors after 6 months of graduation always reaches over 90%. Many students are recruited into full-time jobs right after finishing the internship programmes.

Director of the Da Nang Entrepreneurship Support Nguyen Van Chuong, said that the unit regularly cooperates with universities and colleges in the city to have talks with students about startup ideas and projects.

“Recently we had a talk with students of the College of Commerce about career guidance and orientation for them in the future. At the same time, the two units also agreed to organise many competitions on creative entrepreneurship for students,” Mr. Chuong revealed.
