The role of women in intellectual property was highlighted at a scientific workshop which was co-organised by the Da Nang Department of Science and Technology and the municipal Women's Union on Wednesday morning.

The intention of the event was to widely publicise World Intellectual Property Day, raise public awareness about the importance of intellectual property, and honour talented women and encourage them to learn and effectively use intellectual property tools.

Director of the municipal Department of Science and Technology Le Duc Vien highlighted the vital role of women in the city in the fields of science and technology, intellectual property, and innovation promotion. Many of them have participated in scientific and technological tasks at all levels, and have worked as managers and owners of businesses.

Many works, researches, inventions, and international publications made by local women have been honoured and awarded Certificates of Merit by the municipal People's Committee, he added.

"In order to further promote the role of women in scientific research, intellectual property and innovation promotion, we need to continue to create a very favourable environment for women to overcome barriers, access support resources, develop talents and actively participate in innovation activities" Mr. Le Duc Vien emphasised.

Deputy Director of the Intellectual Property Office of Vietnam Nguyen Van Bay stressed the need for Da Nang to identify advantages, key products and put intellectual property activities into the overall content of its socio-economic development strategy.

During the workshop, the participants shared experiences on the process of registering for protection of industrial property rights for inventions, as well as discussed utility solutions on promoting intellectual property development and the business development of female scientists and entrepreneurs, and creating jobs and income for women.
