Smart lighting technologies promoted in Viet Nam
The application of new technologies in the development of urban lighting systems is a trend and an optimal solution for saving energy consumption, protecting electrical energy sources, improving the quality of urban lighting, and reducing carbon emissions and environmental impact.

Deputy Director of Technical Infrastructure Department under the Ministry of Construction Dang Anh Thu affirmed the statement at a scientific conference on national lighting in 2023 held in Da Nang on Thursday.
Co-organised by the Viet Nam Lighting Association and the Technical Infrastructure Department, the event takes ‘Viet Nam's lighting in development and application of new technologies’ as its theme.
Deputy Director Thu remarked the application of new technologies, changes in management models and business methods, and the creation of digitised databases, required lighting service providers, designers and manufacturers to further improve the propaganda, and identify their responsibilities and significant benefits in the use of energy economically and efficiently.
He asked for support from domestic and foreign organisations to propose mechanisms and policies suitable to new development needs, and new technology application solutions and international experience to promote the development of the lighting industry in the coming time.
He remarked that the Department of Technical Infrastructure will closely coordinate with the Viet Nam Lighting Association and strengthen cooperation with domestic and foreign lighting organisations and businesses to further develop the lighting industry in the new period.

Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Construction Le Van Tuan informed that currently, the city is reviewing and adjusting the urban lighting planning, with a focus on using power economically and efficiently, creating landscape and being integrated with climate change.
By 2025, the city will complete the replacement of the old-technology lighting system with new, high-efficiency and energy-saving technology ones, and the connection of 100% of electric lighting cabinets with the public lighting control and monitoring centre, he added.
He added, currently, the city is focusing on investing in the Han River art lighting project themed ‘River of Light’, aiming to enhance the value of the urban landscapes alongside the Han River, and create a unique tourism product and an inviting night-time entertainment destination for both locals and visitors.
According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hong Tien, Chairman of the Viet Nam Lighting Association, the lighting industry is making efforts to boost digital transformation, and deploy smart and energy-saving lighting towards net zero emissions by 2050. Heed is on managing and operating lighting system effectively in order to improve the quality of life, create amazing architectural-landscape space and ensure safety of tourists.
