Da Nang offers free swimming classes for children in their summer break
Teaching swimming skills for children is identified as an important task by Da Nang's education sector, especially during their summer break, thereby strengthening the prevention of drownings, and keeping them safe in and around water.

Mr. Huynh Dang Dong, the swimming Instructor of the My An Sports Center, said that the summer break saw a significant increase in the number of children who register for swimming classes. A personalised approach to teaching is that each of children aged 6-11 with a swimming instructor. With formal lessons, children learn how to swim in a safe environment and they are taught swimming strokes and basic water safety techniques like floating and treading water. Besides, swimming lessons are a fantastic way to improve a child's physical health and well-being while they are so successful at boosting a child's confidence.
According to the Da Nang Department of Education and Training, 74 primary schools and 22 junior high schools in the city have built swimming pools, and these schools have got their funding from the city’s budget to be able to offer free swimming lessons for their students. Learners will earn their certification after taking a water safety class from their school.
The Le Van Hien Primary School located in Ngu Hanh Son District is a typical example. The school have bee active in increasing awareness of the importance of swimming and water safety lessons among its students as it is located in Ngu Hanh Son coastal district which has many rivers and lakes. During their summer break, many students will go to the beach and river to swim. Therefore, they need to be aware of hidden drowning risks when swimming in open water. The school will offer swimming and water safety education to its students during this summer in efforts to provide initiatives and resources to support them to be safe in, on and around water.
According to the Municipal Department of Education and Training, the city's education sector is focusing on encouraging parents to take their kids to swim lessons where they can learn basis swimming skills to allow them feel confident and comfortable in the water. Furthermore, importance is attached to providing drowning prevention and water safety education for children to help them protect themselves and know how to save others in order to prevent drowning.
