The report at the event stated that over 50 large FDI enterprises are investing in Viet Nam in the microelectronics and semiconductor industry, of which the field of integrated circuit design, or IC design, requires the most high-quality human resources.
The total demand for human resources in this field, according to forecasts of some economic experts, is about 20,000 people with university degrees or higher in the next 5 years and about 50,000 in the next 10 years.
Viet Nam's leading engineering and technology universities are relatively ready in terms of training capacity to meet human resource requirements in the field of semiconductors and microelectronics.
In particular, the most suitable training majors for human resources in the research, development and production of semiconductor materials are chemistry, physics and materials; and those in IC design and manufacturing are electronic engineering, and electronics - telecommunications. Other related majors include electrical engineering, control and automation, and mechatronics.
However, the biggest challenge is how to attract students to study the aforementioned majors and improve the quality of training to meet the strict requirements of foreign businesses.
The Ministry of Education and Training plans to submit two important projects to the Prime Minister for consideration at the end of the year.
Specifically, a project will focus on training and developing high-quality human resources to serve high technology, and providing incentive support for human resource development in STEM and high-tech in general, and the field of electronics, semiconductors and microchips in particular.
The other is to build a number of excellent research and training centres in Industry 4.0, in which propose mechanisms, policies and investment projects in order to prepare for the formation of high-tech research groups associated with postgraduate training in high-tech field will be proposed.

The seminar aims to unify, and raise awareness and determination among leading higher education institutions about promoting the training of high-quality human resources in service of the development of the country's semiconductor industry.
Addressing the event, municipal Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Van Quang said proudly that Da Nang has a very favourable foundation and conditions in developing the information technology industry and innovative startups, especially in the semiconductor industry.
He asked relevant agencies to urgently carry out a project on developing the semiconductor and microchip industry in the city, as well as issue mechanisms and policies to promote the development of human resources serving the industry, and then submit them to the municipal People's Council for consideration and approval as soon as possible.
"Da Nang has been proactive and ready to create the most favourable conditions for training institutions, businesses, and domestic and foreign investors in the field of semiconductor and other technology industries in general to operate under many different models" the city leader emphasised.
Mr. Quang hoped that the seminar would create an alliance of training institutions and tech companies to cooperate in training high-quality human resources in the semiconductor industry, thereby contributing significantly to the country's development in the coming time.
