One of the strategies to promote international cooperation between the University of Da Nang (UN) is to increase student exchanges in tandem with creating opportunities for them to participate in collaborative research and experience programmes at foreign universities and businesses.

Luckily participating in experience sharing and academic exchange activities on construction steel materials at the Research Institute of JFE Group in the Japanese city of Kawasaki on a scholarship, student Pham Quang Nhat from the Da Nang University of Science and Technology, a member school of UD, said he felt excited to have access to advanced scholarship in Asia.

Along with the exchange of professional knowledge, Nhat is also supported by JFE Group with free Japanese language training and opportunities to work at this group in the future.

Nhat is one of nearly 100 outstanding students from the UD to receive full scholarships from the JFE Group in recent years, focusing on industries and fields such as Civil Engineering, Japanese Language and Culture.

With a full scholarship, Nhat was supported by the group to develop foreign language skills and work experience in a modern business environment, thereby meeting the need for high-quality human resources in large economic corporations.

Similarly, 10 students from the Faculty of Architecture and Road and Bridge Construction, the Da Nang University of Science and Technology have just returned to Da Nang after an exchange of learning experiences at the Utsunomiya University in Japan.

Recently, the group participated in the 7th workshop between the two schools with the topic ‘Smart city design with light rail transportation system’. The activity is within the framework of the Sakura Science programme signed between the two universities 7 years ago.

As reported by Master Vo Xuan Trung, lecturer from the Faculty of Architecture, member of the working group, at the Utsunomiya University, students participated in lessons from famous professors and participated in field surveys with engineers who worked for a rapid railway development project by the Utsunomiya Department of Transportation. This is an opportunity for students to boldly propose ideas for designing a fast railway and the surrounding urban landscape.

According to the UD, each year, nearly 100 students studying at its member universities go on internships and academic exchanges abroad under the international cooperation programme. This is a useful opportunity for students to apply the knowledge they have learned, enhance their living skills and improve their ability to communicate with foreigners.

Through such programmes, UD students have the opportunity to expand their perspectives and hone their professional and foreign language skills. Not to mention, many students during their internships receive a monthly salary of more than VND30 million.

In addition, many universities and businesses have developed policies to support professional knowledge, accommodation, and travel expenses, creating conditions for students to fully participate in activities within the framework of mutual cooperation programmes.

According to Assoc.Prof., PhD. Le Quang Son, the Deputy Director of the UD, this is a new, positive educational trend, suitable for the need for cooperation between universities and businesses, bringing common benefits, especially students in the direction of ‘going far to return’.

Also according to Mr. Le Quang Son, in the coming time, the UD will continue to promote university-enterprise cooperation to meet needs and promote potential, in which enterprises that possess strengths in the field of construction, engineering, services, and IT can support member schools and units of the UD in training high-quality human resources for Da Nang.
