With a tradition of nearly 25 years of international training experience, with many multi-disciplinary training programmes taught in English (undergraduate and graduate levels), the University of Da Nang (UD) currently has nearly 1,000 students. Students from more than 20 countries and territories are studying and researching at UD’s member schools.

The Da Nang International Institute of Technology (DNIIT) has just organised internship for 32 French students from schools and institutes (Polytech CS, Polytech E, IUT info) that are members of Côte d'Azur University (UCA), France.

This was a programe to receive international students for internships at UD from April to August 2024 within the framework of a cooperation project with UCA, thereby helping students gain a lot of useful knowledge and skills.

According to Prof. Dr. Le Thanh Nhan, Director of DNIIT Institute, the academic reports made by international students under the guidance of lecturers and experts have scientific and practical significance, applying 4.0 technology to propose highly feasible and applicable solutions such as ‘Hopital K-Admin Web application and mobile API for nutritional care of cancer patients’; ‘K-App Hospital for mobile’; ‘Building energy monitoring and warning system’; ‘Rainfall monitoring and warning system’; ‘Application for flood flow forecasting and natural disaster warning’.

So as to help international students of the Vietnamese language preparatory programme (before continuing to study majors at member schools and units of UD) have more opportunities to learn about local professions, culture, and improve Vietnamese language, the University of Education, a member school of UD, regularly organises field trips and career guidance for students.

At the end of April, 108 Laotian students from the Da Nang University of Education took a tour to the Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture, the Marble Mountains and the Non Nuoc stone carving village. Student Phommachak Sonexay from Chamasak Province, Laos, said: “I really enjoyed this trip. Through the activities on the journey, I learned many new things about the Vietnamese culture and history”. Similarly, international student Thatsany Phommasy from Vientiane, Laos, expressed: "My group interacted with local people and enjoyed delicious and new dishes. I will tell my family and friends about the places I visited on this trip”.

The member schools of the UD always provide favourable conditions for international students to feel secure in studying and attach themselves to the school as their ‘second home’ through activities such as festivals, traditional Vietnamese Tet, Laos' traditional Bunpimay or Cambodia's Chol Chnam Thmay, and the ‘homestay programme’, which provide Lao students studying in Da Nang with real experiences by staying with local families as a way to help them well integrate into the host society, enhance their Vietnamese language skills and receive support during their study in the city.

Recently, 38 Norwegian students spent 10 weeks studying at the Viet Nam - UK Institute Research and Executive Education, participating in the Kulturstudier programme at the Museum of Da Nang, Hoa Tho Textile and Garment Joint Stock Company and Hoi An.

“I really like and feel close to Vietnamese culture. The people here are gentle and hospitable. There are many unique and new customs and beautiful landscapes. I can experience the summer heat completely different from my hometown”, student Emil said.

According to Assoc. Prof. PhD. Le Quang Son, the Deputy Director of the UD, internationalising higher education and strengthening connections and attracting international students to Da Nang is one of the strategies for the UD to develop sustainably.

Hopefully, through these activities, in the near future, there will be major events such as the International Student Festival held at the UD so that more and more international students come here to experience academics and culture.
