Da Nang students' path to 'global citizenship'
Through cooperative relationships, many universities across Da Nang have created opportunities for their own students to develop expertise, join international academic and cultural exchange.

Ready for integration
Having just graduated with a bachelor's degree with honors, majoring in Biomedical Sciences at the Viet Nam - UK Institute for Research and Executive Education (VNUK), a member school of University of Da Nang (UD), student Ngo Duong Anh Thu came to Hungary to study a master's degree course at the Eotvos Lorand University on a full scholarship.
She said that this was a great joy, giving her more motivation to continue to persevere, try and see this as a good opportunity to experience culture, expand knowledge horizons as well as build up an international relationship network. She believed that the experience and knowledge accumulated from the master's programme would be a solid foundation for developing her career and contributing to the community in the future.
Stipendium Hungaricum is a prestigious scholarship programme established by the Hungarian government, requiring candidates to meet highly competitive criteria. The programme to promote the internationalisation of Hungarian higher education and to attract top international students from all around the world who can establish personal and professional links to Hungary while enjoying high-quality education in the heart of Europe.
During Thu’s journey of ‘hunting’ for scholarships, Thu said she received great support from her teachers, from introducing scholarships to advising on the steps to complete the application.
To achieve the above-mentioned positive results, Thu believed that "99% came from personal efforts and the remaining 1% depended on luck." Because of this belief, the Biomedical Science student constantly tried to study in the spirit of seizing every opportunity to challenge herself whether achieving this goal or not.
Similarly, student Tran Khanh Huyen from the University of Economics, a member school of UD also recently participated in the ‘Summer Programme in Entrepreneurship-Singapore 2024’ with a scholarship worth nearly VND 100 million at the National University of Singapore (NUS).
Not missing out on learning opportunities, Huyen was present in most thinking fostering activities, startup ecosystems, sustainable development strategies for businesses or job experience at big brands Google, Alibaba and Shopback. Huyen said that participating in the startup programme helps her gain more experience in preparing job applications as well as devising personal development plans.
“This was also an opportunity for me to better understand the working processes of large corporations, thereby preparing all conditions to effectively integrate into the international labour market in the future,” Huyen said.
High-income job opportunities
In the 2023-2024 school year, young female teaching assistants Pham Thi Kim Anh and Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy, both of whom are former students of Information Technology at the Viet Nam - Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU) excellently won two out of the 1,814 scholarships awarded by the South Korean government to students around the world.
It is worth mentioning that Kim Anh was the valedictorian of the Information Technology major with a GPA of 3.57/4.0.
With this achievement, the young female teaching assistant was eligible study AI & Computer Engineering at the Ulsan University. Meanwhile, with an excellent diploma, Thanh Thuy was admitted to the Kyungpook National University for studying Computer Science.
Also during this period, a delegation of six students and lecturers from the Department of Digital Economics and E-commerce, VKU participated in the international student exchange programme ‘Leadership Camp: 21st Century Skills for Global Citizen’ at the King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok (Thailand), alongside eight other universities around the world.
Here, VKU students and international experts and lecturers take part in activities on 4.0 tech topics such as AI, robotics and automation with 17 sustainable development goals.
According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap, the Principal of VKU, this tertiary establishment has been focusing on expanding cooperation so that students can study in an international standard environment as well as have the opportunity to practice communication skills with foreigners.
This method also contributes to shortening the distance from school to business by inviting engineers and business experts to participate in teaching and career consulting activities.
Through joint training programmes, especially joint training with advanced universities in the world, students will have more knowledge, skills and confidence in "hunting" for scholarships of high academic value, thereby, enhancing their own abilities and opening up opportunities to find well-paid jobs.
