Developing and expanding education support programmes plays a crucial role in promoting learning and talent cultivation while fostering a learning society. Recognising this importance, city agencies, units, departments, and mass organisations have implemented effective and innovative approaches, mobilising resources to build and enhance education funds.

Support for Disadvantaged Students Excelling in Education

Ms Hoang Thi Thu Huong, Chairwoman of the Da Nang Women's Union, shared that in 2024, the city’s women’s unions launched various meaningful programmes to support students from impoverished households, disadvantaged backgrounds, orphans, and those with disabilities, enabling them to excel in their studies.

Through initiatives such as “Support Children to School”, “Green Dreams”, and “Together We Help Children Continue Schooling”, the women’s unions collaborated with organisations, individuals, and benefactors to award scholarships, bicycles, financial aid, school supplies, health insurance, gifts, and rewards to 29,171 disadvantaged but high-achieving students, amounting to over VND 2.6 billion.

Additionally, grassroots women’s unions introduced models like“Zero-Cost Classes”, guided by retired female teachers. These programmes combined dedication and responsibility towards the community, providing struggling students with educational reinforcement and spreading love and support.

In alignment with the “Godmothers” initiative by the Viet Nam Women’s Union, which supports orphans, the city unions mobilised members and partnered with organisations, units, and individuals to secure resources for adopting 276 additional orphans this year. This raised the total number of orphans receiving support across localities to 900. Quarterly financial aid and gifts worth nearly VND 4 billion were provided.

At the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year, the Da Nang Women's Union organised the “Godmothers - Fulfilling Dreams Together” programme, presenting ao dai dresses and gifts to 100 outstanding orphaned female students, with funding of VND 80 million. They also continued quarterly support initiatives.

Through these efforts, over VND 1.3 billion was raised to aid orphans, significantly contributing to social welfare within the city.

"These meaningful programmes not only provide timely material support but also instil resilience and hope in students facing hardships. These acts reflect the community’s compassion and care for the younger generation. The Women's Union continues to promote profound humanitarian values, fostering a compassionate society where every child has an opportunity to learn and thrive" said Ms Huong.

Leveraging potential of agencies and organisations

To inspire educational excellence and nurture a love for learning, the city’s healthcare trade union annually recognises and rewards students who are the children of union members and workers for their academic achievements. According to Dr Tran Thanh Thuy, Director of the Municipal Health Department, the healthcare trade union and affiliated units awarded scholarships and commendations to students and employees with outstanding academic results, amounting to nearly VND 575 million in 2024.

Similarly, armed forces units in the city have supported education through financial aid, books, and supplies for disadvantaged students. The city police, in addition to honouring candidates admitted to police academies, commended children of officers and awarded gifts to students from challenging backgrounds. In 2024, the city police allocated over VND 108 million for these awards.

As reported by the Municipal Study Promotion Association, by 30 October, scholarships and awards amounting to nearly VND 12 billion had been granted to tens of thousands of students by city agencies, organisations, and unions.

"To effectively promote education and talent development, it is essential to leverage the resources of agencies, units, organisations, and the broader community. In recent years, the Study Promotion Association has collaborated with various social forces to mobilise resources supporting diligent and talented students from underprivileged backgrounds. This collective effort contributes to the creation of a learning society," said Mr Nguyen Minh Hung, Chairman of the Municipal Study Promotion Association.
