New driving force from Da Nang University Village project
Construction has started on a series of key infrastructure works which were under sub-project 1 on building technical infrastructure and urgent works on an area of 49 hectares for the Da Nang University Village project in Hoa Quy - Dien Ngoc, making the first concrete activity on site following a near 20-year delay.
The focus will be on levelling land of about 32 hectares; building 8 inner traffic routes with total length of 4,750m, a rainwater drainage system of 8,300m in length, a wastewater drainage system of 4,500m in length, and a waste water treatment station with capacity of 275m3/day; and installing water supply and fire protection system of nearly 5,000m in length, power supply system with a medium voltage cable line of about 3,200m in length, and systems of lighting, communications and modern surveillance cameras. The total construction cost is expected to be more than VND 300 billion.
After completion, these items will meet the technical infrastructure requirements to continue to implement the construction of the project’s works according to the approved planning. With the new technical infrastructure conditions, the use of existing works of the University of Village in the project will be more convenient, creating a new look for the whole area.
In recent years, with support from the central Government, Da Nang and Quang Nam Province have joined hands to overcome difficulties for the project. The University of Da Nang has gradually implemented the project to soon complete the goal of building Da Nang University Village.
Up to now, as part of the Da Nang University Village project, a number of universities have been operating, including the School of Medicine and Pharmacy, the Viet Nam - Korea University of Information Technology and Communications, the University of Technical Education, and the Faculty of National Defence and Security Education.
To have the appearance of Da Nang University Village as it is today, authorities at all levels have made great efforts in the compensation and site clearance work and early handover of land so that the project can be carried out smoothly.
The project to build the Da Nang University Village on an area of 300 hectares in Hoa Quy Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District, Da Nang and Dien Ngoc Ward, Dien Ban Town, Quang Nam Province in Hoa Quy - Dien Ngoc was announced by the Government in 1997.
With the determination to raise the level of the University of Da Nang in training high-quality human resources, in 2020, the Prime Minister decided on the investment policy, and the Ministry of Education and Training approved sub-project 1 with a total investment of over US$117 million (equivalent to more than VND2,760 billion).
The project aims to develop the University of Da Nang into an international standard centre for training, scientific research and technology development, as well as upgrade it into a National University according to the policy and tasks defined in the spirit of the Politburo’s Resolution No. 26-NQ/TW on socio-economic development and ensuring national defense and security in the North Central and Central Coast regions to 2030 with a vision to 2045, and the Politburo’s Conclusion No. 79-KL/TW on continuing to implement Resolution No. 43-NQ/TW on building and developing Da Nang to 2030, with a vision to 2045.
Along with the determination to create new driving force for the further development of Da Nang, and make the city deserve with its central role of the North Central and Central Coast regions and the whole country, on September 30, 2024, the central Government issued Resolution No. 169/NQ-CP promulgating the Government's Action Programme to implement Conclusion No. 79-KL/TW.
In addition to the action programmes in the socio-economic fields, the central Government clearly stated the priority of allocating resources to complete the Da Nang University Urban Village project (expected implementation period 2026-2030), and upgrading the University of Da Nang into a National University.
With the determination of the central government and ministries, branches, and authorities of Da Nang and Quang Nam Province, the infrastructure of Da Nang University Village and the appearance of the Da Nang University Urban Area will gradually take shape in the future. Not only will the staff, lecturers and students of the University of Da Nang have a modern research and learning environment, but the economic, cultural and social life in this area will also change dramatically.
After 30 years of construction and development, up to now, the University of Da Nang has 7 member universities and affiliated training units located in the city and Kon Tum Province, with a team of highly qualified staff and lecturers.
Once completed, the Da Nang University Village project will help improve the quality of teaching and research at the University of Da Nang, enhance the quality of facilities and academic environment, and realise the overall development goal of turning the university into a centre for training, scientific research and technology development according to international standards to provide high-quality human resources suitable for the requirements of the socio-economic and science and technology development of the country.
