The annual memorial ceremony for traffic accident victims, organised every November by the municipal Youth Union and the municipal Traffic Safety Committee, pays tribute to those who tragically lost their lives in traffic accidents and supports their bereaved families. This year, the event, held at Thanh Nien Park, Khue Trung Ward, Cam Le District, attracted over 300 youth members. Participants laid wreaths and lit candles to honour the victims. Additionally, a documentary titled Remembering the Departed - For Those Who Remain was screened to raise awareness among young people about following the Road Traffic Law.
For the second consecutive year, Do Nhan Trong Duc, a member of Hai Chau District Youth Union, participated in the memorial. “This is an occasion to reflect on the pain and losses caused by traffic accidents and the emotional burden on their families. It reminds us to be more conscious of obeying traffic laws and exercising caution while on the road,” Duc shared.
Under the campaign Youth and Traffic Culture, the municipal Youth Union directed its branches to collaborate with traffic police to intensify awareness programmes on the Road Traffic Law for members, young people, and students. Since the start of the 2024-2025 academic year, Cam Le District Police have delivered educational sessions at 18 schools, reaching over 21,200 students, teachers, and parents. According to Captain Pham Thi Van Giang of the Traffic and Order Police Team, these sessions focus on the basics of the Road Traffic Law, safe traffic practices, and signing commitments not to violate the law. Additionally, initiatives like ‘For a Peaceful School Gate’ are implemented to ensure student safety and alleviate congestion near school entrances.
Beyond traditional methods, the Youth Union leverages social media to disseminate traffic safety messages. A video contest launched in September and October 2024 attracted over 200 entries from youth members. These videos, creatively produced and shared online, highlighted traffic violations, proper behaviour on the road, and assisting accident victims. Such efforts promote positive traffic culture on social platforms. Other activities include safe driving workshops, mock trials, traffic safety poster contests, and the Youth and Traffic Culture festival.
According to Mr Le Xuan Thanh, Secretary of the Ngu Hanh Son District Youth Union, the common violations among young people, such as speeding, reckless driving, drink-driving, and ignoring traffic signals. These behaviours pose significant risks of severe accidents.
To improve compliance with the Road Traffic Law and reduce accidents among young people, the district has adopted multiple measures. These include creating short videos and infographics on traffic regulations, disseminating them on social media, maintaining volunteer teams to assist with traffic flow during peak hours at schools, organising visual safety campaigns, and conducting safe driving workshops for young people.
A representative from the municipal Youth Union's Propaganda Department highlighted that the implementation of diverse measures has significantly raised awareness among young people about complying with traffic laws and gradually fostered a culture of respectful behaviour on the road.
In the coming period, the Da Nang Youth Union will innovate its approaches to raising awareness, educating on traffic laws, and recognising individuals and groups demonstrating exemplary traffic behaviour to create a positive ripple effect. Besides the involvement of authorities and schools, families must also play a more active role in guiding and educating their children to follow traffic laws.
