Golf tourism is highly potential in Viet Nam, and golf travellers are known for their long stays and high expenditure, which is many times higher than spending by ordinary visitors. Therefore, golf tourism will become an effective market to attract international visitors, bringing sustainable and stable benefits to the country’s ‘non-smoke industry’.

One of the upcoming golf event to be held in Da Nang is the Danang FantastiCity Open 2021, which is slated to run from April 30 to May 2 for top domestic golfers, the municipal Department of Tourism recently announced.

The event will kick off a series of “Race to Central Coast – The Essences of Viet Nam” golf tournament, which is scheduled to run until the end of August at golf courses located in Da Nang and other central localities, with the companionship of many media sponsors and golf brands.

Under the event’s timelines, golfers will compete at the 18-hole Ba Na Hills Golf Club on April 30, and Montgomerie Links on May 1. Besides, on May 2, the participants can choose to play at BRG Danang Golf Clubs, Vinpearl Golf Nam Hoi An, Hoiana Shores Golf Club, and Laguna Golf Lang Co.

This upcoming tournament aims to create a motivation for the recovery of the tourism industry, especially high-quality tourism in combination with sports for physical strength and relaxation in Da Nang, and Central Viet Nam as a whole, in the coming time.

In addition, the upcoming event will also help promote golf tourism associated with M.I.C.E (Meetings-Incentives-Conferences-Exhibitions) segment in bid to attract an influx of tourists with high spending potential.

Also at this event, golfers and their families will have opportunities to experience local excellent cuisines and entertainment services.

In his perspectives, Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Tourism Nguyen Xuan Binh said, Central Viet Nam now houses seven golf courses, including three in Da Nang, boasting modern designs and meeting international standards.

There are about 70,000 golf members across the country, many of whom are in Ha Noi and HCM City.

This fact facilitates Central Viet Nam, and Da Nang in particular, to map out plans to fully tap this lucrative type of tourism in the time ahead.

"As for family groups, travel agencies can launch tours to Da Nang during which the husband play golf, the wife enjoy spa and shopping services, whilst the children immerse themselves in interesting recreational activities”, Mr. Binh suggested.

The local tourism industry will be in cooperation with service providers and golf courses to open driving ranges to both locals and visitors so as to promote their interest in golf tourism.

Viet Nam Golf Coast Chairman Adam Calver said golf businesses, over recent times, have always sought ways to promote this highly potential type of tourism to lure other tourist segments such as women or children.

Golf courses under the management of Viet Nam Golf Coast have successfully organised many major golf events, in addition to offering free golf for children aged 16 and under, and other wide arrays of incentives and promotions.

Chairman of Vicoland Group Bui Duc Long affirmed Da Nang boasts many advantages and potential in both natural resources and infrastructure facilities to develop golf tourism.

He underlined a must-do to boost a linkage between golf courses to create prestigious international tournaments, and promote cooperation with travel agencies to offer journeys during which visitors can make visits to attractions in tandem with playing golf at courses in Da Nang and the provinces of Thua Thien-Hue and Quang Nam in the coming time.

Currently, functional Vietnamese agencies are working hard to implement solutions to tourism restoration, including the progress of golf tourism market. They have mulled over more effective ways to lure potential M.I.C.E (Meetings-Incentives-Conferences-Exhibitions) delegations to Central Viet Nam for golf tourism experiences.
