DA NANG Today
Published: October 15, 2014

On Tuesday morning, the Indian Coast Guard ship Samudra Paheredar, carrying 122 officers and crew members, docked at Da Nang’s Tien Sa Port to begin a 3-day courtesy visit to the city.  This is the 3rd time that an Indian Coast Guard ship has visited Da Nang.

The 95m-long ship displaces 4,300 tonnes and can achieve a maximum speed of 20.5 knots, with an endurance of 6,500 nautical miles.

The visit is aimed at strengthening the friendship and mutual understanding and trust between Viet Nam and India, contributing to promoting the strategic partnership between the 2 countries.

During their 3-day stay in the city, the Indian guests will pay courtesy visits to leaders of the city and to the High Commands of Military Zone 5 and the Command of Viet Nam Coast Guard.  They will also visit the Quang Nam Province-based Marine Police Agency Zone 2, and some popular historical sites and beautiful landscapes in Da Nang and Thua Thien-Hue Province.

In addition, the Indian officers and crew members will join with Vietnamese maritime police officers to practise using charts in maritime delimitations.  A focus will also be on exchanging mutual experiences in detecting and dealing with marine environmental pollution, as well as carrying out search and rescue exercises at sea.

The ship’s captain, Colonel Sanatan Jena, said that during their trip from Japan to Viet Nam, his officers and crew members had heard about the Vietnamese oil tanker Sunrise-689 which had been hijacked by pirates who had then stolen some oil.  The Indian captain said that during their stay in the city, the visiting officers and crew members would also share their experiences of ship protection at sea with the Vietnamese maritime police force.

Yesterday afternoon, the city’s leader played host to the ship’s captain, Colonel Sanatan Jena, and its officers and crew members.

Here are some photos of the Samudra Paheredar after it docked at the Tien Sa Port.  They were taken by our reporter Dac Manh.
