Roosters prominent in Co Tu sculpture arts
Published: February 24, 2017
The Co Tu ethnic minority people mainly inhabit the mountainous areas of Quang Nam Province and Da Nang.
In Co Tu culture, the rooster (or ‘a tưch’ in the Co Tu language) is considered to be a mascot which brings good luck and peace to villagers. As a result, images and replicas of roosters often appear on either their community houses or the charnel-houses of their deceased relatives.
Here are some photos of roosters in the sculpture arts of the Co Tu people. They were taken by Da Nang photographer Huy Dang, a freelance photographer for DA NANG Newspaper.
