On Wednesday morning (the 9^th day of the 1^st lunar month), the Lien Chieu District Open Boat Race 2019 took place on some sections of the Cu De River across which the Nam O Bridge spans.

This annual event reflects the special cultural traditions and river life of residents in Lien Chieu District for many years.

The Cu De River is the place where the Lien Chieu District Open Boat Race 2019 took place.

This year’s event attracted over 120 contestants in total from 5 men’s and 3 women’s teams hailing from Lien Chieu District’s Hoa Hiep Bac and Hoa Hiep Nam wards, Hoa Vang District’s Hoa Bac Commune, and Ngu Hanh Son and Cam Le districts.

Under the race’s rules, the men’s teams were required to complete 3 laps, equivalent to 3km, and the ladies’ teams competed in just 2, equivalent to 2km.

Police and border guard forces were on duty to ensure security and safety at the race.

As for the male category, the first prize was given out to the team of Hoa Bac Commune.

According to Vice Chairman of the Lien Chieu District People’s Committee Le Van Nghia, the annual boat race has become an indispensable spiritual food for local residents over recent years. This event has also played a vital role in praying for peace and safety throughout the year and helping local residents strengthen their physical health.
