The Da Nang authorities have given a nod to grant more than VND84 billion to implement the 2nd stage of the Dien Hai Citadel restoration and embellishment project during the 2019-2024 period.
The purpose of the project is to maximise the value of this special national-level relic site. Once completed, the refurbishment will turn this site into a new attraction in Da Nang for both locals and visitor arrivals in the city to explore, especially those who show keen interest in conducting their historical and cultural research activities.
The 2nd stage of the project will focus on preserving as much as possible the components and traces constituting the original relic, as well as recreating a part of the landscape space and original architecture in the inner citadel.
Also, a number of new architectural components will be added to clarify the original value of the relic site, thereby significantly contributing to honouring and promoting the value of the citadel in the contemporary life.

The 1st stage of the project was completed on schedule. A total of 80 households and 3 State agencies were moved out of the citadel. The main gate of the citadel facing the east overlooks the current Han River. In the 2nd stage, this gate will be restored with a more elaborate and majestic scale and form. |

A bridge at the gate facing west is seen in the picture. In the 2nd stage, the bridge will be restored with the building of walkways for displaying on-site archaeological remains. |

The Museum of Da Nang is now home to 14 cannons. In Phase 2, such cannons will be rearranged, and preserved. An area will be built in the architectural style of the Nguyen Dynasty in the 19th century to display these cannons. |

Also during the Phase 2, some unrelated components and works will be moved out of the citadel’s campus. In the photo: the UH-1 helicopter - an artifact from the 1975 Spring General Offensive and Uprising at the base of Da Nang Airport will be removed out of the campus of the Dien Hai Citadel. |

Also, the statue of General Nguyen Tri Phuong will be embellished and placed in a position suitable to the general space of the relic site. Meanwhile, the Museum of Da Nang will be moved out of the Dien Hai Citadel site to relocate to the current headquarters of the municipal People’s Council at 42 Bach Dang. |

A stage of flag with a 2.82m-high tower and a more than 23m-high flagpole will be constructed. |

Ancient walls restored in Phase 1 will continue to be repaired, cleaned, and preserved in Phase 2. |

Upon completion of the 2nd stage, the Dien Hai Citadel connected to the new Museum of Da Nang, the Central Square and the surrounding system of cultural institutions and historical relic sites will create a new and special historical and exhibition space. This will significantly contributing to serving the needs of the people's cultural activities, and developing tourism on the basis of promoting the value of cultural and historical relic sites. |
