During his reception on Tuesday for Mr Jong-ha Bae, the Chief Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Viet Nam, the Da Nang People's Committee Vice Chairman, Mr Phung Tan Viet, briefed his guest on his city's remarkable development in recent years.

The city leader also took the opportunity to thank the FAO for their active support for establishing a rice seed production centre in Hoa Vang District’s Hoa Tien Commune.  In addition, he asked the FAO to continue its support to ensure the successful implementation of this project, and others in the city’s agricultural sector.

Funded by the India, Brazil and South Africa (IBSA) Trust Fund, the project is being implemented by the FAO and the city’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.  Its purpose is to encourage local farmers to reinvest in rice seed production in order to improve their living conditions.  The implementation of the project started in November 2011 and has so far reached over 50% of the project’s target.
