The Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee, Mr Phung Tan Viet, on Tuesday afternoon played host to a group from Japan’s International Total Engineering Corporation (ITEC), led by Mr Shigehito Akagi.

The visiting guest said that the purpose of his group’s visit to Viet Nam was to conduct a feasibility study for the construction of a mother and child healthcare centre in one of 3 cities: Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh and Da Nang.  He added that his country’s government will give loans to cover the project’s construction costs.

Vice Chairman Chien briefed his guest on the current local healthcare infrastructure and its staff.  He highlighted the need to build a facility in Da Nang to provide healthcare services for mothers and children due to the overload at the city’s the Maternity and Paediatrics Hospital.  He added that his city has now become a major socio-economic hub in the central region and highlands, and it is also emerging as an attractive destination in Viet Nam for foreign investors, especially those from Japan.  The city leader believed that if this centre opens in Da Nang, it will bring benefits to residents both locally and from elsewhere in the central region, as well as Japanese expatriates living in the city and neighbouring areas.
