On Monday, the Da Nang People’s Committee Chairman, Mr Van Huu Chien, released a special announcement about arrangements in Da Nang during the State funeral for General Vo Nguyen Giap.

Accordingly, throughout the two-day funeral period, from 12.00 noon on 11 October to 12.00 noon on 13 October, all local government offices and public facilities will fly the national flag at half-mast.  In addition, all entertainment activities across the city will be postponed.  Therefore, all local bars, pubs, theatres, and cinemas, along with cultural and sporting activities will be temporarily closed or postponed during this period.

Following recent approval from the city’s authorities, and to satisfy the aspirations of local residents and its members, the War Veterans, Association will set up an altar to General Giap at its headquarters, 68 Quang Trung Street.  A memorial service will be held there from 7.30am on 12 October to 12.00 noon on 13 October. 

Mourners, who will be able to pay their respects to the legendary Vietnamese General there, will be asked to wear black armbands but not to bring wreaths and incense.
