The Da Nang People's Committee Chairman, Mr Van Huu Chien, recently hosted a group of US parliamentarians, led by the President pro tempore of the US Senate, Senator Patrick Leahy, during their working visit to Viet Nam.

On behalf of the city, Chairman Chien applauded the visit by the US parliamentarians and said that their visit would help to deepen the bilateral ties between Da Nang and the USA.  He said that Da Nang is currently home to 33 US invested projects.  Most notably, the US Rocky Lai and Associates Group is the developer of the dedicated IT park in Hoa Vang District.

The city leader mentioned that there had also been a number of US naval ships visiting Da Nang over recent years to boost bilateral defence cooperation between the two countries.  He said that he would like the US government to provide more assistance to deal with dioxin contamination at the Da Nang International Airport, and give more support for local disabled and AO-affected people.  He also asked the US parliamentarians to appeal for more US businesses to invest in the city’s dedicated IT and hi-tech industrial parks.

Senator Leahy was impressed by Da Nang's rapid changes over recent years.  He said he hopes that the bilateral cooperative relationships between Da Nang and some localities in his country would achieve even more fruitful results in the near future.  He added that, during the visit to Da Nang, the US guests were promoting the implementation of the project to remove dioxin contamination at the city’s airport, and they had visited and presented wheelchairs to disabled people in Hoa Vang District.
