Published: May 13, 2014

On Monday, some of Da Nang's leaders, led by the Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party Committee, Mr Vo Cong Tri, paid a visit to the Executive Board of the city’s Buddhist Sangha on the occasion of Buddha's 2558th birthday.

On behalf of the city leaders, Deputy Secretary Tri wished the Buddhist dignitaries, monks, nuns, and followers a happy and peaceful Vesak Day.  He said that Viet Nam’s hosting of the United Nations Day of Vesak for the second time has helped to emphasise the position of Viet Nam, and that of its national Buddhist Sangha, around the world.  He noted that this has also helped to affirm the country’s consistent policies of great national unity and religious freedom, as well as the Party and State’s foreign policy of openness.

The city leader spoke highly of the local Buddhist followers for their remarkable contributions to the city’s social welfare programmes, and for promoting the fine traditions of the nation.  He also praised them for their efforts, jointly with the local government and residents, to strengthen national unity.  He remarked that this helps to fulfil the city’s socio-economic development targets, and make Da Nang a more beautiful and prosperous city.
