On Monday, reporters from Australia’s ABC TV and the USA’s CNBC visited Da Nang to learn about fishing boat DNa 90152 which was capsized by a Chinese ship on 26 May.

The captain of the damaged fishing boat, Mr Dang Van Nhan, told the foreign visitors about the deliberate attack by the Chinese.  He added that he would like the 2 international media agencies to raise their voices against China’s illegal actions as well as back Viet Nam’s legitimate demand for China’s withdrawal of its illegally-placed HD- 981 oil drilling rig from Viet Nam’s territorial waters.  In addition, the captain emphasised that the Hoang Sa archipelago belongs to Viet Nam and it is the traditional fishing grounds over which our ancestors have entrusted their descendants to reaffirm the nation’s legitimate sovereignty.  However, the Chinese ship perversely crashed into the Vietnamese fishing boat, with the intention of killing the innocent Vietnamese fishermen.

ABC TV reporters David Barry and Samantha Hawley said that they became aware of the incident in the East Sea through information released by newspapers in the USA, Japan and South Korea.  Despite their long journeys, these foreign reporters wanted to visit Da Nang to get the truth about what had happened to the capsized boat.  The visitors promised that they would release the information to readers in their own countries.

Over the first half of this month, captain Nhan has had interviews with reporters from 10 international media agencies.  Among them were world-renowned ones from the USA, Japan and South Korea.
