Published: October 08, 2014

On Tuesday morning, the Da Nang People’s Committee Chairman, Mr Van Huu Chien, played host to the Chargé d'Affaires of the US Embassy in Viet Nam, Ms Claire Pierangelo.  He took the opportunity to thank the US government for their great efforts in helping the city to implement some large projects, especially the Removal of Dioxin Contamination project at the Da Nang International Airport.

Chairman Chien said that Da Nang has boosted bilateral cooperation in such aspects as healthcare and education with some US cities, including Oakland, Pittsburgh and Houston.  The city leader also asked the US Chargé d'Affaires to do her utmost to appeal for more investors from her country to invest in various local aspects, with a focus on the hi-tech industrial park and cooperative sectors.  In addition, he suggested that the US government should grant more scholarships for Da Nang students to study at universities in the USA.

Ms Pierangelo stressed the need for the city to secure top position in the Provincial Competitiveness Index ranking in the years ahead, as well as to create even more favourable conditions for current and new foreign investors.  She noted that some of the US localities are willing to work with Da Nang to implement cooperative programmes relating to animal protection and the organisation of international sports competitions.

Currently, there are 31 US-invested projects operating in the city, worth 346 million USD in total.  The largest of these are the American Pacific University, and the T2 Toan Cau (Global) and the Danapha Nanosome companies.
