Bilateral cultural and economic exchanges with Japan to be enhanced

During his meeting on Thursday with the Chairman of the Japan-Viet Nam Cultural and Economic Exchange Committee, Mr Yoshihiko Nakagaki, the Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee, Mr Van Huu Chien, briefed his guest on the city’s economic development over recent years.

Chairman Chien also said he would like Mr Yoshihiko to appeal for more Japanese investors to put their money into aspects to which the city has given top priority.  These include hi-tech industries, information technology, tourism, and port infrastructure construction.  In addition, the host added that Da Nang’s unversities and colleges want to boost bilateral cooperation with Japanese partners in training high-quality human resources.  The city leader also remarked that his city is willing to enhance bilateral cultural exchanges with some Japanese localities in the years ahead.

In reply, Mr Yoshihiko said that this was the first time he had visited Da Nang.  He added that he was very impressed with such a dynamic city which boasts great tourism potential.

Also at the event, the host and his guest discussed some aspects to which both Japan and Da Nang have paid special attention.  They will focus on promoting bilateral cooperation in these in the near future.  They include hi-tech industries, tourism, and high-quality human resource training.

So far, over 100 Japanese businesses have invested in Da Nang, with a total investment of nearly 500 million USD.  These are involved in manufacturing pulp for export, processing seafood and agricultural products, manufacturing electronic components, software outsourcing, and reafforestation support activities, and other aspects.
