On Thursday morning, as part of their 3-day courtesy visit to Da Nang, officers and crew members from the Indian Coast Guard ship Samudra Paheredar carried out exercises in detecting and dealing with oil spills at sea.

The Deputy Chief of Staff of the Viet Nam Coast Guard, Col Pham Kim Hau, highly appreciated the Indian ship’s most advanced and sophisticated pollution response and control equipment, as well as the professional skills of the ship’s officers and crew members.  He remarked that this was a good opportunity for both the Vietnamese maritime police force and the Viet Nam Centre for Oil Spill Response to learn valuable lessons and gain experience about mitigating oil spills.

In the afternoon of the same day, the Indian officers and crew members joined with the Vietnamese maritime police officers to practise search and rescue activities at sea before the ship departed Da Nang for its home base.
