Some Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) deputies and military officers have voiced their objections to the approval granted by the Thua Thien-Hue Province authorities for the World Shine-Hue resort project on the administrative boundary between Da Nang and the province.  Their discontent was expressed during talks with some reporters from national media agencies on the sidelines of the ongoing 8th session of the 13th Vietnamese NA which is taking place in Ha Noi from 20 October to 28 November.

The around 250 million USD luxury resort project is being developed by the World Shine Joint Stock Company, which is a Chinese joint venture.  The project covers an area of about 200ha on the Cua Khem Cape where the Hai Van Pass borders the Bien Dong (East Sea).  According to the interviewees, this location is very sensitive in the respect of national defence.

The Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Council and Head of the city’s NA members’ group, Mr Huynh Nghia, said that the city’s People’s Committee has asked the central government to cancel the project.  He added that he himself recently urged the Prime Minister to pull the plug on this project.  Vice Chairman Nghia also remarked that the administrative boundary between the 2 localities has yet to be officially fixed and that the Ministry of Defence has not given the go-ahead for the implementation of this project.  He also noted that US troops landed at the Hai Van Pass to attack Viet Nam during the war.

Meanwhile, the Minister and Head of the Office of the Government, Mr Nguyen Van Nen, confirmed that the province’s authorities have recently been asked to submit a detailed report on the project to the central government for consideration.  The Prime Minister will make a final decision very soon.
