On Monday morning, the Da Nang People’s Committee Vice Chairman, Mr Phung Tan Viet, warmly received some guests from the UK, led by a parliamentarian of the Scottish Labour Party and Chairman of the Scottish Affairs Select Committee, Mr Ian Davidson.

Mr Davidson remarked that the UK government is willing to provide more assistance for Da Nang in the environmental protection, education and energy sectors.  He said he hoped that some Scottish universities would establish cooperative relationships with the University of Da Nang in the years ahead.  Mr Davidson reported that Scotland will be pleased to share its experiences of dealing with pollution in domestic water resources.  In addition, some Scottish businesspeople are showing a keen interest in making long-term investments in the city.

In reply, Vice Chairman Viet said he would like the UK government to continue to help his city, especially in the healthcare and education sectors.  He also vowed that the local authorities would create very favourable conditions for UK businesses to invest and operate effectively in the city.
