Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the People’s Committee, Mr Van Huu Chien, remarked that the city had already exceeded 4 out the 11 targets set by the municipal People’s Council for 2014.  These are the industrial production and construction values, the total State budget collection, the total investment capital for social development, and a sharp decrease in the number of poor families as defined by the city’s new poverty measure.  In addition, the city had successfully fulfilled another 6 its targets, with only the growth rate of the service sector to yet meet its set target.

The city leader also said that Da Nang has seen numerous remarkable achievements in 2014.  The city’s “Year for Business 2014” programme has been implemented effectively, and its total budget collection has exceeded targets by 6%.  In addition, the Da Nang Administrative Centre and a ring road on the south side of the city, which were considered as the 2 key projects, have been officially opened and put into use.

By late 2014, the city’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP) is likely to have climbed by 9.28% compared with the same period last year to hit an estimated 41.714 trillion VND.  The city’s service sector is predicted to have maintained steady growth.

In 2015, the focus will be on increasing GRDP by between 9% and 10% against 2014, creating jobs for 31,500 local residents, and ensuring that there will be no poor families according to the city’s poverty measure.  An emphasis will be on raising the production value of services by between 11% and 12%, and of the industrial and construction sector by 9% and 10%.

Special attention will be also paid to increasing the export turnover of goods by between 14% and 15%, and the total State budget collection by between 9% and 10% of the year’s estimates.  Importance will be attached to upping the total investment capital for social development to an estimated 35 trillion VND, as well as reducing the city’s birth rate by an average of 0.15‰ per year.
