During the recent 18th Open Congress of the Da Nang Party Committee (PC), PC Secretary Tran Tho stressed the urgency to identify the problems which have inhibited the city’s socio-economic development over recent years, as well as to make more breakthroughs in order to surpass next year’s socio-economic targets.

Secretary Tho highlighted the key tasks for next year.  He affirmed that the city would do its utmost to reach a gross domestic product (GDP) growth target of between 9% and 10%, as well as exceed the total budget collection targets by about 10% by the end of next year.  Importance will also be attached to ensuring an increase of between 11% and 12% year-on-year in the total value of local services, whilst the total industrial production value should climb by between 9% and 10% and the total export turnover of goods by between 14% and 15%.  In addition, the total amount poured into local development projects will stand at an estimated 35 trillion VND by late next year.

The city leader also took the opportunity to ask local relevant agencies to complete the deployment of the city’s key development projects by the end of next year.  They are the construction of the Hue T-junction overpass, ring roads on the southern and northern sides of the city, the north-west traffic axis, the infrastructure development of the city’s Hi-tech Park, the Phu Loc Wastewater Treatment Plant, the municipal Children’s Cultural Palace, a cardiovascular centre at the Da Nang General Hospital, general hospitals in Hai Chau and Hoa Vang districts, the northwest urban area No 7 project, and the upgrading of the city’s General Science Library and local drainage systems.

Also in 2015, special attention will be paid to creating employment for over 30,000 job seekers, and ensuring a decline of 0.15% in the local birth rate by late next year.  More effective measures will be taken to fulfil the target of no households living below the city’s poverty threshold, as well as to encourage local young men to voluntarily join the army.
