On Tuesday morning, the Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee, Mr Huynh Duc Tho, played host to the Chief Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Viet Nam, Mr Mori Mutsuya.

During his reception, Vice Chairman Tho asked JICA to give non-refundable aid to Da Nang as soon as possible in order to allow the city to implement the Hoa Lien water supply plant project.  He also affirmed that the success of this project would further promote the fruitful bilateral cooperation with JICA and the Japanese government.  In addition, he added that the construction of the plant would play an important role in ensuring sufficient water supplies for local resident’s daily lives, as well as agriculture and industry, in the years ahead.

The host also said that he would like JICA to offer official development assistance (ODA) for Da Nang to build a drainage and wastewater treatment plant on the eastern side of the city in order to prevent the discharge of untreated wastewater into the sea.  This will help Da Nang to develop into an environmentally-friendly city in the near future, with clean and beautiful beaches.

Also at the event, Vice Chairman Tho took the opportunity to ask JICA to give more assistance to the building of the Lien Chieu Port.

In reply, Mr Mutsuya vowed that he would do his utmost to urge JICA in Tokyo to provide non-refundable aid for the construction of the Hoa Lien water supply plant as soon as possible.

The Japanese guest also promised that JICA would consider offering more ODA for the implementation of other local projects in order to deepen the bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperation with Da Nang.
