Viet Nam, Egypt hold eighth political consultation
Viet Nam’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Vu Hong Nam, led a delegation to Egypt from May 22-25, where he attended the 8th political consultation at deputy foreign ministerial level between the two countries.
At the event, Nam and Egyptian Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs Yasser Murad discussed measures to foster bilateral ties in numerous fields, in the hope of raising two-way trade from nearly 400 million USD in 2014 to 1 billion USD in the near future.
Nam spoke of the position and role of Egypt in the Middle East and North Africa, and its global influence, affirming that Viet Nam always attaches importance to developing its multi-faceted cooperation with the country, which it considers one of its biggest partners in the region.
Yasser Murad, in turn, praised Viet Nam’s economic development and requested that Vietnamese enterprises increase their investments in Egypt’s advantageous fields of oil and gas and telecommunications.
Egypt wants to receive Viet Nam’s support for its signing of a Treaty of Amity and Cooperation with ASEAN, he added.
