Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and a high-ranking delegation left Ha Noi on the night of July 5 for an official visit to the US from July 6-10.

The visit is made at the invitation of the US administration.

This is the first time a General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam has made a visit to the US.

The visit takes place at a time important to Viet Nam-US relations, as the two countries are marking the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties.

During the visit, the two countries’ highest leaders will discuss future orientations for further developing their bilateral relations and deepening the Viet Nam-US comprehensive partnership, with a focus on the fields of investment, trade expansion and facilitation, education-training, science-technology and defence-security.
