Enhancing bilateral cooperation with Boras for sustainable development
On Thursday, a workshop took place in the city on enhancing bilateral cooperation between Da Nang and Sweden’s Boras City towards sustainable urban development. The event was co-chaired by the Da Nang People’s Committee Vice Chairman, Mr Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, and the Mayor of Boras City, Mr Ulf Olsson.
Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman Tuan highlighted the fruitful cooperation between Da Nang and Boras City on an environmental project over the 2013 - 2015 period which is being funded by Sweden’s International Centre for Local Democracy (ICLD). This project gives Da Nang the opportunity to learn from Boras City’s experiences in its environmental and urban management and planning work.
The city leader took the opportunity to thank the environmental experts from Boras City for giving their active assistance to Da Nang’s relevant agencies with regard to solid waste management and the classification of garbage at home.
Also at the event, the municipal Department of Natural Resources and the Environment introduced the Swedish guests to its ‘Environmentally-Friendly City and Environmental Protection Policies’ project in order to appeal for cooperation from Boras City.
In reply, Mayor Ulf Olsson said that his city is willing to continue helping and sharing its valuable experiences with Da Nang in building an effective garbage collection system which will be supported by suitable wastewater treatment technology. The focus will be on assisting the city in raising public awareness about garbage classification at home, and environmental protection.
He hoped that greater efforts will be made to foster the bilateral cooperation with Da Nang and bring it to a higher level.
